    EXPLAIN yourself!
This was the instruction to the SABC from Jackson Mthembu at a media briefing at Luthuli House.
During the briefing he said: “The ANC wants qualified people to run the public broadcaster.”
Telling the Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, and the board of the SABC to explain the recent actions at the public broadcaster, Mthembu said: “We don’t support any censorship.
“In our view that is contravention of the Constitution.”
He also said: “The current issues at the SABC can’t continue any further and can’t be allowed to continue in the name of the ANC.”
He said they will investigate management at the public broadcaster and called for an inquiry into the allegations that tarnished the image of the ANC.
He said neither the party nor the minister was consulted about policy changes at the SABC.
The SABC’s acting CEO, Jimi Matthews resigned last week and seven journalists have been suspended.
Meanwhile, The Communications Workers Union think Jimi Matthews is a coward.
The union said the former SABC acting CEO should have raised his concerns with the broadcaster before resigning instead of taking the debate to social media.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, general secretary of the union Aubrey Tshabalala asked: “At what point did Jimi Matthews’ morality become resurrected?
“We cannot agree with or promote the cowardice of people keeping quiet while they are at the helm and wanting to lobby sympathy when they are outside.”
