Bob Mabena
Bob Mabena is an On Air Radio Presenter on Kaya fm’s breakfast show, reputable radio consultant, inspirational speaker and renowned master of ceremonies. The Bob Mabena Brand has been around since 1998 and has grown to cover Radio and Television extensively, with huge success. Bob Mabena is an astute and professional MC and has hosted all of South Africa’s presidents since 1994. Bob Mabena is the only personality to have won awards on both Radio, Television and Music and raced Group N cars professionally.
Mabena’s radio career began in 1988 at Radio Bop where he hosted the breakfast and afternoon shows. He then moved on to Metro fm in 1992, later Highveld Stereo 94.7 and is now on Kaya fm. Mabena has been involved in a myriad of exciting communications centric projects including the All Africa Rally with then minister of Communications, Jay Naidoo, driving from Tunisia to Cape point to highlight the importance of Telephony and Communication in Africa. He also managed Operation Access for the IEC in the first democratic elections – a dangerous operation that provided political parties access to traditionally “no go” areas in parts of Gauteng. He is still active in his interest in the upholding of our country’s image, having staged a protest against the insulting posting of the South African flag on the backsides of elephants on a billboard belonging to a South African corporation. Although he is not an adrenaline junkie, Bob has had his fair share of thrills, bungee jumping at Moses Mabida Stadium, shark diving, Class B racing with Nissan Motorsport.
To add to his extensive list of interests, Mabena is also a philanthropist. He founded the Bob Mabena Foundation. The Foundation was established to create awareness of the needs of disadvantaged children living in South Africa’s townships. This involves supplying and improving resources, implementing feeding schemes and enhancing early childhood development in these poverty stricken areas.
Testimonial from the most recent event “He scores a 10/10. He was notified late and yet was able to accommodate us. He showed a sense of understanding the significance of the celebrant. A key mark of a good programme director is being able to think on your feet to adjust the programme sensing if there is a crisis. We started late and so he was to cut time on other items to avoid finishing late. He didn't come & behave like a celebrity but carried himself with ease and interacted well with the audience before & after the programme. He scores a 10/10. Overall rating is Excellent.
Would I hire him again or refer him to another function: Definitely.” Malose Kekana Trustee - Mlangeni Foundation.
