Pastor Mboro gives Kenny Motsamai cash for a car wash as he walks free

Pan Africanist Congress prisoner Kenny Motsamai‚ who became a free man today‚ is being given R40‚000 by well-known Katlehong pastor‚ Prophet Mboro‚ to start a car wash.

On his release from the Boksburg prison parole centre‚ after serving 28 years in jail and on day parole‚ Motsamai knelt down to kiss the ground.

He said he would work to unite the PAC now that he was out of prison.

He thanked the EFF and his lawyer as well as Prophet Mboro for their support.

Motsamai hugged his wife Mantombi and daughter Busi. Then he held his six-year-old grandson's hand. The little boy has spent the day at the prison waiting in the hot son for his grandfather's release.

Motsamai has been on day parole for six months and spends a lot of time with his grandson as he didn't see his children growing up‚ said his wife Mantombi.

He stopped at McDonald's for a bite to eat‚ minutes after leaving prison

Mboro‚ who drives a flashy BMW i8‚ joined the family as well as supporters of the PAC and EFF to welcome him on his release.

Accompanied by a bodyguard‚ Mboro‚ who's real name is Paseka Motsoeneng‚ a pastor at the Incredible Happenings Ministries‚ told TMG Digital he was making the donation for a car wash to Motsamai as a "sacrifice".

A party is planned at the car wash.

Mboro's flashy black sports car‚ which is valued at R2 million‚ caused the EFF crowd to gasp and pose for photos on front of it. But the pastor insisted he did not have a lot of money.

Mboro claimed Motsamai has attended his church during his period of day parole.

"I have prayed for him."

Motsamai was a PAC prisoner arrested in 1989 for the murder of a traffic officer during a bank robbery‚ which was sanctioned by the party. The robberies were used to fund PAC activities.

He was released on day parole about six months ago‚ meaning he was out of prison during the day with an electronic tracking device but had to return to prison at night. The six-month term of the day parole expired yesterday but the parole board still had to meet and make a determination.

Motsamai will not only have a job on his release - He is one of the political veterans who was awarded a state-funded house earlier this month.

Until now‚ he has been spending his day parole at his wife's house in Katlehong. His new house is in Daveyton‚ also east of Johannesburg.

He told the Sowetan in an interview on January 2: "I'm very happy that they’ve given me a house. Not having a shelter is like not having land‚ somebody can chase you away at any time. The PAC has ensured that after my release I'll go straight to my own house."

PAC spokesman Kenneth Mokgatlhe said that Motsamai's new house had been built through a housing programme between political parties and the government's military veterans department.

While the PAC welcomed Motsamai's release this afternoon‚ national chairperson Phillip Dlamini told TMG Digital there are more than 40 PAC political prisoners still behind bars. He charged that his party's political prisoners have been treated unfairly‚ while MK political prisoners had been released in the years since apartheid.

Same-sex debate not over - Makgoba

Discussions about the status of same-sex members in the Anglican Church will continue despite a recent vote against the inclusion of certain practices relating to them, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba said yesterday.

"The debate is not over," said Makgoba in a statement following a synod on Friday in Ekhurhuleni during which two proposals were rejected.

"It remains my hope that those on both sides of this debate can overcome their differences."

As part of a debate on the issue of pastoral care for people in same-sex relationships, a motion was put forward that bishops be allowed to license clergy, who identified as LGBTI and are in a same sex civil union, to minister in parishes. Another proposal made was that bishops may "provide for prayers of blessing to be offered for those in same sex civil unions" – although not actually marry them under Church law.

The motions were put forward to the three separate "houses" of the Synod: The bishops, clergy and laity.

Put forward as a "controversial motion", the proposal needed to both obtain a simple majority in each of the three houses – as well as a two-thirds majority overall to pass.

"The motion failed to achieve a simple majority in any House," said Makgoba.

"The bishops voted 16 to six against the motion, the laity 41 to 25 against and the clergy 42 to 34 against," Makgoba said.

The Archbishop added that even after the vote, "The pain on both sides of the debate in synod was palpable and no one celebrated or applauded the outcome".

He said it was also "notable" that a number of those who voted against the motions did not reject them "out of hand" but instead proposed that "our Church was not yet ready for such a move".

Makgoba said that Friday's synod was the first time the issue had been seriously debated by the Church.

"Representatives are free to raise it again at future synods."

The synod held on Friday covered Anglican churches in Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and the island of St Helena.

Of these countries, only the South African state allows same-sex civil unions.

"As it was, the degree of support for the motion was quite substantial if you compare us to other African provinces of the Anglican Church, most of which are vigorously opposed to same-sex unions in any form."

Makgoba urged LGBTI members to "stick with us" and contribute to future deliberations on the matter.

NEWLY launched political party People’s Revolutionary Movement (PRM) is calling on the Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba to provide a platform for discussion of same sex marriages.

PRM national spokesman Nhlanhla Mhlongo told Daily Sun that the issue of same-sex relationships was a serious one that needed careful consideration.

“As a movement we are 100 percent against same-sex marriages. The movement stands for a normal society that consists of men and women.”

He said they saluted all the church leaders who observed God’s commandments.

“We denounce those leaders who promote Sodom and Gomorrah in the land of our kings and queens.”

Speaking to party members at the official launch in Durban on Sunday, PRM president Nhlanhla Buthelezi said they valued the historic role played by the African kings, queens and all the traditional leaders.

“We will campaign for aggressive, vigorous and visible results of Operation Pakisa, so all illegal foreign nationals are repatriated to their countries.”

He called for free, quality education and a decolonised education system at all levels.

He added that they also supported the move for South Africa to resign from the International Criminal Court.

Sbongiseni Khumalo, programmes manager at the Durban Gay and Lesbian Community Health Centre said: “We are all guided by the Constitution. We understand that everyone has their own opinions. But people should be careful in what they say because things like this can lead to hate crimes. It is only our sexual orientation that makes us different.”

Javu Baloyi, Commission for Gender Equality spokesman said that everyone had a right to their sexual preferences.

Mayihlome Tshwete, spokesman for Home Affairs, said it was not the mandate of the department to create a platform for discussions.

“If they want to discuss the issue they can do it on their own.”

TWO years ago John Mdaka (43) died mysteriously after complaining of stomach problems.

According to the family, his widow immediately started acting strangely.

They say her behaviour became so odd they eventually got the cops to remove her from the house in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.

And on Friday after she had left they moved the bed and made a shocking discovery!

In the corner they found a small heap of sand with a garden fork struck into the sand, a butcher’s knife and a packet of dog shit mixed with muthi.

That’s when the family remembered that some of the sand from John Mdaka’s grave was missing.

Sibongile Mdaka (34), the dead man’s niece, said they accuse widow Paulina Mabena (42), who moved into the family house with John in 2011, of evil deeds.

“She never looked after my uncle when he was sick.

“My uncle was still in the mortuary when she already started to accuse us of evil deeds,” said Sibongile.

“When we saw the sand in the bedroom, memories of the missing sand from John’s grave came back,” she said.

Sibongile said Paulina was always telling them they were evil.

“When we saw what was under the bed, we left the house and locked the door.”

Her cousin Rita Khumalo (27) said what they saw in John’s bedroom was scary.

“We never knew John’s wife was practising evil deeds because she was always going to church,” said Rita.

Daily Sun spoke to a family friend who is a sangoma and didn’t want to be named.

She said the Mdaka family was cursed with the sand from the grave.

“The dog shit mixed with sand from the grave means a spell of hardship for the family,” she said.

When Daily Sun spoke to Paulina she said the garden fork had been in her bedroom since her husband was alive.

“We kept the fork for protection against thugs.

“The soil where I struck the fork was dug up by rats,” said Paulina.

SINGLE women are being warned about a group of scammers targeting shoppers.

Last week, cops in Lusikisiki bust five women between the ages of 30 and 35 after they allegedly robbed a widow of valuables worth R8 000.

Lusikisiki police spokesman Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said the women pretended to be makotis and wore black doeks and blankets. They approached female shoppers and offered them supermarket goods at half price.

The women, believed to be from Mthatha, reportedly told their victims they worked at the shop and wanted to share their staff discount.

They then lured their victims outside the shop, saying they were going to a storeroom. They told the victims to leave their bags and cellphones outside because there were metal detectors.

They kept their victims’ belongings outside and when the victims finally realised the women had lied, they had already disappeared with their bags and phones.
Godlwana said: “We want people to stop looking for discounts and to ignore any unrealistic suggestions by strangers.

These people are smart and target women. Recent victims have been widows and teachers.”

He said the women were arrested last week but were released on a warning by the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court.
Godlwana said they travelled in a Toyota Avanza.

“Don’t be tempted by the thought of getting cheaper things. If you think you’re being followed, try to get to a police station or to a security guard,” said Godlwana.

MAKOTI BIT OFF MY EAR!

IT’S GONE: This is all that was left of Thando’s ear after a fight with her uncle’s wife.

The ear before doctors stitched it back on.

 

LAST YEAR, Thando Phokane was a normal woman with two ears. 

But then she got into a brutal fight with her aunt. The older woman got so angry that she allegedly bit off Thando’s ear. 

THE 20-YEAR-OLD HAD TO HAVE HER EAR STITCHED BACK ON AT A HOSPITAL! 

However, Thando is still fuming about her aunt behaving like former champion boxer Mike Tyson, who once bit off opponent Evander Holyfield’s ear in the ring.  

A furious Thando told Daily Sun she was attacked on 21 December. 

Her ear was stitched back on at Jubilee Hospital, near Hammanskraal. 

She said she had gone to visit a friend over the weekend and when she came home, she noticed the yard of the house she shares with her gogo, her uncle and his wife was very dirty, so she got to work. 

“I had just cleaned the yard and switched on the TV to watch the repeat of Generations: The Legacy. I was very tired so I lifted my feet onto the coffee table in the sitting- room. 

“My uncle’s wife came into the sitting-room and pushed my feet off the table. I asked her why she didn’t ask me nicely to remove them.” 

Thando said that made the woman very angry and she started klapping her.

“I protected myself by fighting back and my gogo tried to separate us but she was overpowered. Then my aunt pulled me down and bit my right ear off. She sucked my blood!” 

According to Thando, her uncle married the woman in March last year and she joined the family in April to live with them permanently.

“She treated me badly from the first day. I tried to be nice to her but failed.” 

Thando said ever since she came home from hospital last Wednesday, she had spent her days inside as she was ashamed of her ear.

All Thando’s uncle, Mpho Phokane, would say to the SunTeam was: “I was not home when it happened. Were you here? I don’t want to talk to you.” 

Temba police spokesman, Constable Herman Moremi, said a suspect was arrested, charged with assault GBH and released after her husband paid bail on 23 December.
