A GROUP of men attacked and robbed paramedics in Blackheath, Western Cape police said today.
Five men armed with knives confronted them while they were loading a patient on a farm in Nooiensfontein Road yesterday, Captain FC van Wyk said.
Emergency Medical Services said the paramedics were robbed of their wallets, cellphones and handbags. A female paramedic was stabbed with a broken bottle.
They had been called out just before 1am on Monday, EMS spokesman Robert Daniels said.
The robbers stole the mobile data terminal from the ambulance's dashboard. This means it can’t be used for the next few weeks.
The crew received medical attention and trauma counselling. No one was seriously injured.
"This attack will not diminish our commitment to continue providing emergency medical care, but the public should note that the safety of our emergency care workers throughout the department is our first priority," Daniels said.
"An attack on an EMS ambulance and crew, is an attack on your own community."
No arrests have been made. Police were investigating.
